The Batalha Monastery, officially known as the Monastery of Saint Mary of the Victory, stands as a stunning testament to Gothic architecture in Portugal. Erected to commemorate the Portuguese victory at the Battle of Aljubarrota in 1385, it also served as the burial church for the 15th-century Aviz dynasty.
