The Sistine Chapel, or Cappella Sistina in Italian, is a renowned chapel located in the Apostolic Palace, the official residence of the Pope in Vatican City. It was originally known as the Cappella Magna before it was renamed after Pope Sixtus IV, who commissioned its restoration between 1473 and 1481. The chapel is most famous for its exquisite frescoes, including the ceiling and The Last Judgment painted by Michelangelo, which are considered some of the greatest masterpieces of Western art.
