Chehel Sotoon is a 17th-century Safavid pavilion and garden complex, a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the Persian Garden, named for the illusion of forty columns created by the reflection of its twenty slender wooden pillars in a long reflecting pool. Built primarily under Shah Abbas II as a royal reception hall for entertainment and diplomacy, it features exquisite frescoes depicting historical battles and court scenes, intricate mirror work, and a harmonious blend of architecture and classical Persian garden design.
