The Medinas of the Historic Sultanates of the Comoros, represent a remarkable ensemble of ancient urban settlements that flourished as centers of Swahili-Islamic culture, trade, and sultanate power from the 15th to 19th centuries. These well-preserved medinas, featuring traditional stone architecture, mosques, palaces, and narrow streets, bear outstanding testimony to the historical, social, and architectural evolution of the Indian Ocean island nation and its connections with East Africa, Arabia, and beyond.
