Garamba National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, is renowned for its vast savannas, grasslands, and woodlands interspersed with gallery forests and swampy depressions. Established in 1938, it protects a diverse array of wildlife, including elephants, hippopotamuses, and the critically endangered Kordofan giraffe, though its northern white rhinoceros population is believed to be extinct in the wild. Despite its rich biodiversity, the park faces significant threats from poaching and conflict, placing it on UNESCO's List of World Heritage in Danger. Conservation efforts, led by African Parks and local authorities, aim to safeguard its unique ecosystem and iconic species.
