The Mount Amel Castles are a remarkable group of five medieval fortresses in southern Lebanon, exemplifying cultural and architectural exchange in the Near East during the Crusader, Ayyubid, and Mamluk periods. Strategically perched on high ridges, these well-preserved structures, including Qalaat Al Chakif (Beaufort) and Qalaat Chama’, served defensive and administrative roles for centuries, bearing witness to the evolution of fortified architecture across nine centuries.
