badain jaran desert

The Badain Jaran Desert is a UNESCO World Heritage Site inscribed in 2024. Located in the hyper-arid Alashan Plateau of northwestern China, it is the country's third-largest desert and features the world's tallest stabilized mega-dunes alongside the highest concentration of interdunal lakes. These colorful, saline lakes and dramatic aeolian landforms create a spectacular landscape of outstanding natural beauty and ongoing geological evolution under a temperate desert climate. The site also supports diverse plant life and wildlife, offering a unique example of desert geomorphology.
