Barbados is an independent island nation in the southeastern Caribbean Sea, known as the easternmost island in the Lesser Antilles. Its capital and largest city is Bridgetown. A former British colony that gained independence in 1966 and transitioned to a parliamentary republic in 2021, Barbados has a predominantly African-descended population and a high-income economy driven primarily by tourism, financial services, and remnants of sugar production.
