blue and john crow mountains

The Blue and John Crow Mountains is a UNESCO World Heritage site in eastern Jamaica, recognized in 2015 as a mixed cultural and natural property. It protects 26,252 hectares of rugged, tropical montane rainforest, home to exceptional biodiversity including high numbers of endemic plants, birds, frogs, and other species in one of the Caribbean's key biodiversity hotspots The area also holds profound cultural significance as a historic refuge for indigenous Tainos and escaped enslaved Africans (Maroons), who resisted colonial rule through hidden trails, settlements, and communities like Nanny Town.
