gros and petit pitons
The Pitons Management Area is a UNESCO World Heritage site in southwestern Saint Lucia, recognized for its exceptional natural beauty and geological significance. It features two dramatic volcanic spires, Gros Piton and Petit Piton, rising abruptly side by side from the sea, linked by a ridge and dominating the landscape as iconic landmarks visible across the island. This protected area encompasses diverse volcanic features, including a collapsed stratovolcano, geothermal activity with hot springs and fumaroles, lush tropical vegetation, and marine ecosystems with coral reefs. Inscribed in 2004, it exemplifies outstanding aesthetic qualities and the volcanic history of the Lesser Antilles.
