Karatau Nature Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site in Kazakhstan, is a pristine wildlife refuge nestled in the Karatau Mountains within the Western Tien-Shan range. Established in 2004, it safeguards a unique ecosystem with diverse flora, including over 700 plant species, 62 of which are endemic, and rare fauna like the endangered Karatau argali, Indian porcupine, and golden eagle. The reserve’s rugged landscapes, featuring waterfalls, deep gorges, and ancient petroglyphs, support significant biodiversity and scientific research.
