outre mer

France's Outre-Mer territories, also known as Overseas France, comprise 13 territories located outside metropolitan Europe, spanning the Atlantic, Caribbean, Indian, Pacific, and Southern Oceans, as well as South America. These include five overseas departments and regions (DROM) Guadeloupe, Martinique, French Guiana, Réunion, and Mayotte—which have the same legal status as mainland French regions; Five overseas collectivities (COM) French Polynesia, Saint-Barthélemy, Saint-Martin, Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon, and Wallis-et-Futuna—with varying degrees of autonomy; New Caledonia, which has a unique sui generis status; and uninhabited territories like the French Southern and Antarctic Lands. They remain integral parts of the French Republic, with residents holding French citizenship.
