romney manor

Romney Manor is a historic 17th-century estate in Saint Kitts and Nevis, originally part of the Wingfield Estate sugar plantation established in 1625 by an ancestor of U.S. President Thomas Jefferson. Later renamed after its acquisition by the Earl of Romney, it became notable for the early emancipation of enslaved people on the property in 1834. Today, the site houses Caribelle Batik, a renowned workshop producing vibrant, handmade batik fabrics and clothing using traditional wax-resist techniques, set amid scenic gardens featuring a centuries-old saman tree. Visitors can observe artisans at work and browse the unique Caribbean-inspired products in its colorful shop.
