the pearling path
The Pearling Path, a key component of Bahrain’s UNESCO World Heritage Site “Pearling, Testimony of an Island Economy,” is a 3.5-km trail in Muharraq that connects 17 historic buildings, three offshore oyster beds, a seashore segment, and the Qal’at Bu Mahir fortress. This cultural heritage site, inscribed in 2012, showcases Bahrain’s pearling industry, which thrived from the 2nd century to the 1930s, through restored merchant residences, shops, storehouses, and a mosque, reflecting the economic and social legacy of this once-dominant Gulf trade.
